Introduction of session organizers

Prof. Chang Tang
China University of Geosciences, China

Chang Tang received his Ph.D. degree from Tianjin University, Tianjin, China in 2016. He joined the AMRL Lab of the University of Wollongong between Sep. 2014 and Sep. 2015. He is now a full professor at the School of Computer Science, China University of Geosciences, Wuhan, China. Dr. Tang has published 100+ peer-reviewed papers, including those in highly regarded journals and conferences such as IEEE T-PAMI, IEEE T-MM, IEEE T-KDE, IEEE T-GRS, IEEE T-HMS, ICCV, CVPR, IJCAI, AAAI and ACM MM, etc. He serves as an associate editor of Neural Networks, CAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, BMC Bioinformatics. He regularly serves as Technical Program Committees or as Area Chair of some top conferences such as NIPS, ICML, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, IJCAI, ICME and AAAI. He won the best paper award of the 5th Asian Conference on Artificial Intelligence Technology. His current research interests include machine learning and pattern recognition.

Prof. Xinwang Liu
National University of Defense Technology, China

Xinwang Liu received his PhD degree from National University of Defense Technology (NUDT), China in 2013. He is currently a Professor with the School of Computer, NUDT. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, including those in highly regarded journals and conferences such as IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (TPAMI), IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering (TKDE), IEEE Transactions on Image Processing (TIP), IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems (TNNLS), IEEE Transactions on Multimedia (TMM), IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security (TIFS), ICML, NeurIPS, ICCV, CVPR, AAAI, and IJCAI. His research interests include kernel learning and unsupervised feature learning.

Assoc. Prof. Yong Liu
Renmin University of China, China

Yong Liu, presently serving as a Tenured-Track Associate Professor in the Gaoling School of Artificial Intelligence (GSAI) at Renmin University of China (RUC). My research interest lies in the learning theory of machine learning, with a particular emphasis on generalization analysis in complex scenarios, including areas such as non-convex stochastic optimization, large-scale machine learning methods, and non-independent and identical distribution. In these research directions, I have published over 50 papers as the first or corresponding author in top-tier journals and conferences in machine learning, including but not limited to TIT, JMLR, TPAMI, Artificial Intelligence, ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR. My work has garnered significant attention within the research community. I have been awarded as the “Outstanding Scholar” award of Renmin University of China, Youth Innovation Promotion Association of CAS, etc. Currently, there are a couple of projects I plan to continue and grow with the support of GSAI, including theoretical analysis of non-convex stochastic optimization, graph neural network, and large language model.

Dr. Mohammad Sultan Mahmud
Shenzhen University, China

Mohammad Sultan Mahmud received the Ph.D. degree from Shenzhen University, China, in 2023, and the master’s degree from King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok, Thailand, in 2014. Currently, Dr. Mahmud is a Research Fellow with the College of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Shenzhen University, China. He is one of the pioneers in the distributed clustering ensemble of big data research. Dr. Mahmud has published research articles in esteemed journals such as Information Fusion, IEEE Transactions on Big Data, Big Data Mining and Analytics, and the Journal of Big Data. He has organized a special issue on “Mixture of Experts (MoE) and Ensemble Learning for Big Data” in Information Fusion (Elsevier). His current research focuses on big data mining, distributed and parallel computing, ensemble learning, and mixture of experts.
